Build For A Cure – The Story so Far

southern cross group support for Children’s Cancer Institute

Southern Cross Group are delighted to be supporting partners for the Children’s Cancer Institute initiative ‘Build for a Cure’. Members of the SCG team enjoyed helping out at the official ‘Reveal Day’ for a brand new fully furnished four-bedroom home, built from the ground up at Billy’s Lookout in Lake Macquarie to raise funds and awareness for International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This initiative aims to help fund medical research and ultimately save lives of children with cancer and offer support to their families.

Even a drizzly sky couldn’t dampen people’s spirits and SCG ensured there was plenty to keep people entertained on the day, providing a free Barbecue lunch and a Pass the Ball competition manned by none other than Parramatta and State of Origin star Brett Kenny. Some of the children who took part in the competition displayed great potential. Perhaps we witnessed the birth of some future NRL stars in the making!

We’re ready for a great turnout and a fantastic result at Auction Day later this month on October 23rd.

Wall to Wall Ride 2016

On September 17th Southern Cross Group sponsored the Wall to Wall: Ride for Remembrance, an annual motorcycle ride to honour Police Officers who have fallen in the line of duty. The event, which has grown significantly larger since it’s humble beginnings in 2010, saw over 2000 riders and pillions make the trip from Sydney to the National Police Memorial in Canberra where a ceremony was held to conclude the event. With a number of keen motorcyclists in our Senior Management Team and strong relationship with the NSW Police Force, Southern Cross Group was proud to have the opportunity to act as a Platinum Sponsor for the Wall to Wall ride. To support those who took part in the ride, we offered massages in Canberra to those who completed the trip and were looking for a brief refreshment before the ceremony.

A Tour of the Children’s Cancer Institute Australia

Build for a Cure - SCGS

As part of Southern Cross’ partnership with the Children’s Cancer Institute of Australia’s “Build for a Cure” program, some of our head office staff were invited on a tour of the cutting edge facility determined to end childhood cancer. As a touching and poignant reminder of our purpose in partnering with CCIA, as well as the purpose of the Build for a Cure program, we visited the brave kids fighting Australia’s most fatal childhood disease. Our staff were also taken through a range of research areas and state-of-the-art laboratories, where CCIA’s dedicated scientists and researchers hope to finally find a cure and end the suffering of children with cancer. CCIA focus their research efforts on neuroblastoma, one of the most aggressive forms of cancer in children.

The attending group included (from left to right): Anthony Pearce (National Training and Development Manager), Kim Luck (RTO Coordinator), Ian Saggus (Business Development / Project Manager) and Jordan Latham (Business Development Assistant).

Build for a Cure

Build for a Cure, a program run by the Children’s Cancer Institute, aims to raise funds for researching cancer and caring for children with cancer. By auctioning a home, built entirely through donations and volunteer work over a strict 21-day period, the Institute hopes to raise up to $800,000 in its October efforts to help children beat cancer.

Southern Cross Group is proud to support the Build for a Cure campaign that will not only bring us a step closer to finding a cure, but also help to remove the stigma of the diagnosis and what it means when families are told their children have cancer. As a supporting partner of the Institute, we hope that our generous donations and support will assist in raising funds and awareness of childhood cancer and the terrible impact it has on families.

For more information on the Children’s Cancer Institute’s Build for a Cure program, as well as a live-time lapse of the construction.

Colonnades Mother’s Day Surprise

To celebrate Mother’s Day and show our appreciation for all the incredible women in our lives, Southern Cross teamed up with Vicinity Centres to conduct a special Mother’s Day initiative at Collonades Shopping Centre in South Australia. From May 7th to 9th, once every hour, Southern Cross security officers randomly selected a lucky mother to receive a small gift of a bouquet of flowers, a box of chocolates and a card to show our thanks for all the hard work they do. All of the chosen mothers were pleasantly surprised by the gesture, one mother reportedly expressing her gratitude by saying “Wow! It looks like I’m getting something for Mother’s Day after all!”.

That’s fantastic customer service!Mother Collage
